Trevon Diggs, cornerback for the Dallas Cowboys, may forfeit $500,000 from his 2025 salary due to not participating in the offseason program while he rehabilitates his knee injury in Miami. He has missed the first two phases of the program and organized team activities. His contract mandates he must participate in 84.375% of the offseason program to avoid the salary reduction. Cowboys executives and coaches have indicated they remain optimistic about his recovery, but the implications of his absence could be financially significant.
While the offseason program is voluntary, for years the Cowboys have base-salary de-escalator clauses written into their large contracts that have been given out.
Even though Diggs is rehabilitating from surgery, the contract states a player must rehabilitate such injury as required by and under the supervision of the Club's Head Trainer.
Diggs is believed to be the first player that could see a lowering of his base salary if the Cowboys choose to enforce the clause.
All signs are positive, Schottenheimer said, after noting Diggs had a checkup with the team doctors recently.
