Anthony Smith enters his first Cowboys training camp as a 2026 seventh-round acquisition. Dallas has previously developed late-round wide receivers such as Ryan Flournoy, Cedrick Wilson, and Noah Brown. Smith transferred from N.C. State to East Carolina in 2024, started every game over the last two seasons, and posted 64 catches for 1,053 yards and seven touchdowns in 2025. He became WR1 at ECU, helping produce a 9-4 season and a bowl win over Pittsburgh. His size and Pro Day production stand out, but concerns about hands and route running contributed to his seventh-round selection. His rookie contract length can influence roster and cap decisions, and Dallas has multiple wide receiver spots available behind established players.
"Beyond the top three of CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, and Ryan Flournoy, everything else feels up for grabs. Veterans like Jonathan Mingo, Parris Campbell, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling have experience but no real foothold in Dallas. KaVontae Turpin may see his offensive role reduced after mixed results and declining performance in his special teams work."
