Mega Man Actor Drops Out Of Sequel Over Non-Union Contract
"Please be advised that the producer of the video game production entitled Mega Man: Dual Override has failed to initiate the signatory process. As such, SAG-AFTRA members are hereby instructed to withhold any acting services or performance of any covered work for this production until further notice from the union."
"With a broken Blue Bomber heart, I am no longer the voice of Mega Man. I was asked to return for Mega Man: Dual Override, but only on the condition I work without the protections of a union contract."
"I was told there are 'full A.I. protections in place that guarantee in writing that [my] voice will never be used for A.I. development' but was also told 'with certainty' that Capcom cannot agree to these terms."
SAG-AFTRA issued a Do Not Work Order against Mega Man: Dual Override after Capcom failed to initiate the signatory process required for unionized actors. The order prohibits all union members from working on the game, with violations potentially resulting in fines or expulsion. Ben Diskin, the voice of Mega Man, announced he can no longer voice the character after refusing Capcom's offer to work without union protections. Diskin speculated that Capcom's reluctance stems from SAG-AFTRA's AI protection requirements, which guarantee voice actors' voices cannot be used for AI development without consent and compensation.
