The U.S. House Financial Services Committee is poised to launch a series of crypto hearings digging into several aspects of the industry, including decentralized finance (DeFi), the SEC's oversight of digital assets businesses, and 'pig butchering' scams.
The first of the hearings on Sept. 10 will be a long-awaited subcommittee examination of DeFi, which has received mostly negative attention from regulators to date, amidst proposed rules at various federal agencies.
A full-committee hearing on September 23 could carry the most significance for the crypto industry, with SEC Chair Gary Gensler and the commission set to testify before the committee.
Committee Chairman Rep. Patrick McHenry has stated that one of his top remaining priorities is finishing one of the bills that establish tailored federal rules for crypto before he retires.
