A cryptocurrency trader was kidnapped, tortured, and held hostage in a Manhattan apartment for weeks amid an attempt to extract his Bitcoin password. Following the victim’s escape, authorities arrested 37-year-old John Woeltz, and 33-year-old William Duplessie later surrendered. The victim, a 28-year-old who traveled from Italy, faced severe abuse, including threats to his life and physical torture with electric wires and firearms. Woeltz has been arraigned and is being held without bail, while further legal arrangements are pending for Duplessie.
