WHO Declares Mpox Outbreaks in Africa a Global Health Emergency
Briefly

The World Health Organization has declared the mpox outbreaks in Congo and elsewhere in Africa a global emergency, confirming cases among children and adults across more than a dozen countries.
The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed an alarming statistic: more than 96% of mpox cases and deaths are solely within Congo, emphasizing the concentrated risk faced by the region.
Salim Abdool Karim, chair of the Africa CDC emergency group, expressed concern, stating that the new variant of mpox from Congo poses a significant risk to surrounding areas and has a higher death rate of 3-4%.
Despite the severe situation, Michael Marks from the London School of Hygiene emphasized that it is a failure of the global community to take decisive action only after the crisis escalated markedly.
