Walking pneumonia, caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae, is increasingly prevalent among young children this year, with concerning rises in emergency room diagnoses.
This year, about 7% of children and adolescents between two and 17 years old who visited ERs for pneumonia were diagnosed with M. pneumoniae, marking a significant rise.
The increase of walking pneumonia cases has been particularly high among children aged two to four, deviating from the traditional trend where older children are most affected.
While walking pneumonia is generally mild, it is essential for parents to be aware of its symptoms to ensure proper care for their children.
