RFK, Jr. Wants to Let Bird Flu Spread on Poultry Farms. Why Experts Are Concerned
Briefly

Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. proposed a controversial plan to allow H5N1 avian influenza to spread through poultry flocks in order to identify and preserve immune birds. However, poultry experts, including veterinarians and virologists, strongly oppose this idea, citing the extremely high mortality rate of the virus which rapidly kills infected birds before they can develop any immunity. Current practices involve culling infected flocks to control the outbreak and prevent catastrophic losses to the poultry industry. Experts emphasize that there is no evidence of genetic resistance in birds against this highly pathogenic virus.
This is crazy. The disease overwhelms birds. It's devastating. It's a disease that attacks every single organ. As a result, the chickens never develop the antibodies.
Farmers must currently cull infected flocks to contain the disease before it spreads. The policy is supported by science because avian influenza is highly deadly.
