Health Secretary Teddy Herbosa emphasized, "The mpox virus is among us. This is a warning to everybody," highlighting the urgency of the situation in the Philippines.
Herbosa added, "He did not travel [abroad]. That means the virus is already here in the Philippines," indicating the local transmission of the virus without recent travel history.
This latest case was detected by heightened government surveillance following the outbreak in Africa, with the WHO declaring mpox a global public health emergency.
