Measles exposure reported at LAX, Orange County children's hospital. Who is at risk?

Health officials caution that individuals who visited Los Angeles International Airport and Children's Hospital of Orange County could have been exposed to measles, a highly contagious disease.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health indicated travelers at LAX's terminal B on Nov. 27 might be at risk after a person with measles arrived via Qatar Airways.

As of November 21, the CDC reported a notable increase in measles cases across the U.S., with 280 cases recorded, a stark rise from only 59 in 2023.

Most measles cases are impacting those who are unvaccinated, with a significant proportion of cases now being reported among young children and teenagers.
