Is there an mpox vaccine, and how does it work? DW 08/16/2024
Briefly

Vaccines to protect against an mpox infection do exist, but currently no available vaccines specifically target the monkeypox virus. This is possible due to genetic similarities within the Orthopoxvirus genus.
Cross-reactivity happens when different antigens appear similar to our immune system. A person infected by the variola virus may produce antibodies that protect against monkeypox.
