The Ivory Coast initiated a vaccination campaign using the R21/Matrix-M vaccine with 656,600 doses for children aged newborn to 23 months to combat malaria, a major health concern in the country. The Serum Institute of India, in collaboration with the University of Oxford, facilitated the drive, aiming to extend it to other African countries following its success.
Professor Adrian Hill from the Jenner Institute mentioned that the joint effort with the Serum Institute of India was crucial due to its immense vaccine production capability. The campaign's target is to vaccinate 6.6 million children in African countries by 2025, with 15 nations planning to roll out the malaria vaccine in 2024 according to Gavi, a health organization in partnership with WHO and UNICEF.
