A Norovirus Vaccine May Be Coming
Briefly

Norovirus, known as stomach flu, leads to gastroenteritis causing vomiting and diarrhea. The current surge is linked to the predominance of the GII.17 strain.
With nearly 50 different subtypes of norovirus, the shift from GII.4 to GII.17 strain may have resulted in lower immunity in the population.
Most infections are mild and self-limiting, lasting a few days. However, older adults and infants face a higher risk of severe illness and hospitalization.
While there is currently no antiviral treatment or vaccine for norovirus, Moderna is testing a potential mRNA vaccine against this stomach bug.
