State health officials confirmed the first human case of West Nile virus and the first animal case of Eastern Equine encephalitis (EEE) in Massachusetts. Various communities are at different risk levels for EEE with multiple areas designated as high or moderate risk.
Residents are advised to take precautions as August and September are peak months for West Nile virus exposure in Massachusetts. Mosquito populations carrying these viruses are substantial this year.
