Culture is Key at the CTRL Z Cafe in Chicago
Briefly

CTRL Z Coffee has opened its first brick-and-mortar cafe on Chicago's South Side, focusing on the flavors of the Philippines. The cafe features modern wood accents and an inviting layout designed for social interaction. The menu showcases Filipino coffee and treats, including the rare liberica beans, pan de coco, and ube crinkles. Founder Zandro Zafra incorporates influences from his life in the Philippines and aims to educate customers about local coffee culture, including the popular Spanish Latte and a variety of coffee origins.
My recent visit to the Philippines when my grandmother passed away also became an R&D study on Philippines coffee culture. It opened my eyes to the way Filipinos enjoy their coffee.
Philippines-grown liberica is what we aim to educate people with, but we usually have Ethiopia washed in our hopper as our daily coffee.
The Spanish Latte is big in the Philippines, which is an iced latte with condensed milk that we incorporated in our menu as well.
