Misugaru, a powder blend made up of a variety of grains such as brown rice, barley, millet and black sesame, is often served hot or cold with water or milk.
Misugaru is sometimes consumed as a meal replacement due to its high nutrient content, and it has become popular in Korean coffee shops, with modern variations adding espresso and creamy toppers.
"It's like having hot cocoa or Ovaltine," said chef and co-owner Eric Park, referring to the nostalgic and comforting feeling evoked by misugaru drinks.
