The Martini Expo: World's Best Drink Gets Its Own Festival In Brooklyn
"Led by people like Dave Arnold, Kenta Goto and David Wondrich. There will also be book signings. And there's going to be plenty of food, because you can't have a martini convention without food: Crif Dogs, Hamburger America, oysters, caviar."
"These are people well known for their martinis, including Dale DeGroff, Masa Urushido and Julie Reiner. Salvatore Calabrese is even coming from London to serve his famous Direct Martini. We curated the best gins, vodkas and vermouths. We've got Junipero, Sipsmith, Ford's Gin and Farmer's Gin and others. All the brands I use at home to make my martinis. We even have an olive sponsor."
"I realized this was a sophisticated cocktail. It changed my mind about what I should be ordering in bars."
Robert Simonson's first martini came on a Soho date in 1991, when a Gibson replaced his vodka and cranberry. The experience reframed his bar choices and later led to a 2019 book, The Martini Cocktail. Simonson and his wife designed a weekend Martini Expo in Brooklyn for September 12–13 featuring seminars led by experts, book signings, and plentiful food from vendors like Crif Dogs and Hamburger America. The centerpiece is a Martini Mixer where prominent bartenders will serve signature martinis using curated gins, vodkas and vermouths, including Junipero, Sipsmith, Ford's Gin and Farmer's Gin, plus an olive sponsor.
