The Best High-End Spirits for Cocktails
Briefly

A recent poll of over 25 bartenders across the U.S. revealed their favorite high-end spirits for cocktails, spotlighting trends like spirits that blend categories and well-crafted flavored options. Monkey 47, a German gin, stood out for its molasses base and complexity, while Willett's rye was praised for its body and finish, making it ideal for Manhattans. Michter's 10-Year also gained acclaim for its flavor profile. The survey highlights the evolving landscape of cocktail ingredients and the personal endorsements of bartenders.
The really unique thing about this gin is that it uses a molasses base spirit rather than neutral grain spirit... it's assertive enough to stand up in cocktails.
Willet's rye is big-bodied, nicely astringent, and has one of the longest finishes I've found in a rye.
This would be my base spirit of choice for every Manhattan if I could.
Spirits that blur the line between categories seem to be on the rise, in addition to well-made flavored spirits.
