The Chicago White Sox have placed pitcher Martin Perez on the 15-day injured list due to left elbow inflammation. Perez exited his last game after three innings, contributing to a lackluster performance against the Boston Red Sox. The White Sox rely on Perez's skills both on the field and in the clubhouse, according to manager Will Venable. In his four starts this season, Perez recorded a 3.15 ERA. To fill the gap, Jared Shuster has been recalled from Triple-A Charlotte, where he has excelled with a 1.59 ERA this season.
"We need Martin," White Sox manager Will Venable said on Friday night. "We need the things that he does on the mound, the things that he does in the clubhouse."
Perez, 34, is 1-1 with a 3.15 ERA in four starts this season, his first with the team since signing a one-year, $5 million contract.
