The Chicago White Sox welcomed back infielder Lenyn Sosa after a two-week stint on the injured list due to a right hip flexor strain. To make room, utility player Brooks Baldwin was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte. Sosa, who had been the starting second baseman, is set to play first base and bat seventh against the St. Louis Cardinals. In addition, left-handed reliever Fraser Ellard, who had been on the injured list since May, will also start a rehab assignment at Charlotte.
Sosa, 25, was primarily Chicago's starting second baseman before going on the IL June 4. On Tuesday against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals, Sosa will man first base.
On a three-game rehab stint at Charlotte, he went 1-for-10 with a double and four strikeouts.
The White Sox optioned utility player Brooks Baldwin to Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move.
The White Sox also announced that left-handed reliever Fraser Ellard would begin an injury rehab assignment at Charlotte.
