The Los Angeles Angels have signed third baseman Yoán Moncada to a one-year, $5 million contract. After spending eight seasons with the Chicago White Sox, Moncada, a career .254 hitter with 93 homers, is looking to bounce back after missing nearly all of last season due to an adductor strain. His addition allows the Angels to potentially ease Anthony Rendon's workload, who has struggled with injuries during his time in Los Angeles. Moncada will benefit from instruction under new management in Tempe this spring.
Moncada’s presence at third base creates the option to move Rendon into a smaller role when the Angels get to work at spring training.
He missed nearly all of last season after straining an adductor muscle in April, making just one more appearance.
