The Chicago White Sox showcased their top-100 prospects early in the exhibition season, but recently sent Noah Schultz, Hagen Smith, and Braden Montgomery to minor-league camp. Although they were unlikely to make the 26-man roster, their presence provided a beacon of hope amid a challenging season. Montgomery, who had recovered from a broken ankle, performed well in spring training but faces uncertainty about where he'll start in the farm system. His development, along with that of fellow prospect Kyle Teel, remains crucial for the Sox's future.
This season is going to be rough, so it was pleasant seeing the glimmer of hope these three players provided during camp.
Montgomery finally got his first taste of professional competition in spring training and held his own with two hits and three walks in seven games.
It would have been nice for them to stay in big-league camp for another week or two.
Teel is much further along in his development where he has a legit shot of making the 26-man roster at catcher.
