The Chicago White Sox's spring training is off to an early start at Camelback Ranch, where position players are already in camp. Manager Will Venable noted this year's significant player presence ahead of the first full-squad workout. Colson Montgomery, a top prospect, is vying for a spot on the opening-day roster while competing for the shortstop position. Montgomery's recent success in the minors and fall league enhances his chances. Other key players in the infield include Jake Amaya, Brooks Baldwin, and Lenyn Sosa, each with various starting experience from the previous season.
"I haven't been part of a camp where there's so many guys and we've been able to do this so early," Sox manager Will Venable said.
"The stage is set for Montgomery to make an impact at shortstop with the Sox in 2025. The only question is when will that opportunity arrive."
"Sosa finished 2024 on a positive note, hitting .374 with four home runs and 13 RBIs in 23 September games."
"Baldwin made nine starts at shortstop and 23 at second for the Sox last season."
