"Remember a couple weeks ago when the name Jeremy Sochan came up in Bulls trade rumors? Yeah... let's dust those off. According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the San Antonio Spurs have agreed to release Sochan on Wednesday, sending the ninth overall pick from the 2022 NBA Draft to the open market. Sochan made the Rising Stars team in his first two seasons after being the No. 9 pick in 2022. He and the Spurs worked on trade options at the deadline to find a new opportunity for him and landed on his release this week.- Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) February 11, 2026"
"Sochan failed to develop much after an All-Rookie Second Team season in 2022-23, and this year he mostly fell out of head coach Mitch Johnson's rotation on a contending San Antonio club. After averaging 11.4 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 25.3 minutes for a lottery-bound San Antonio squad last season, Sochan has been averaging a scant 4.1 points on .475/.257/.688 shooting splits, 2.6 rebounds and 1.0 dishes across 12.8 minutes while cameoing in just 28 games for the 37-16 Spurs."
Jeremy Sochan has been released by the San Antonio Spurs and will become a free agent. The Spurs selected Sochan ninth overall in the 2022 draft after which he made the Rising Stars team twice and earned All-Rookie Second Team recognition. Sochan has struggled to develop since, losing rotation minutes under coach Mitch Johnson and producing far lower per-game numbers this season compared with last. San Antonio explored trade options at the deadline but could not find a deal. Sochan is already linked to multiple playoff contenders as a potential bench addition.
