NL Central Notes: Gray, Cubs, Brewers
Briefly

Sonny Gray, the Cardinals' biggest offseason signing, missed the beginning of the season due to a hamstring strain and was set for a Triple-A rehab start, only to have it canceled by rain. However, the right-hander will now make his debut for the big league club against the Phillies, limited to around 65 pitches.
Gray's return is highly anticipated by the Cardinals, who had one of the worst pitching staffs in the majors last year and are struggling early in the 2024 season with a 5.64 FIP, better than only the Rockies and Blue Jays. His performance in 2023 earned him an All-Star appearance and second place in AL Cy Young award voting.
