Munetaka Murakami Injury Update: White Sox Lose AL HR Co-Leader to Hamstring Strain
Munetaka Murakami was put on the White Sox 10-day injured list with a Grade 2 right hamstring strain expected to keep him out four to six weeks. The injury occurred in the third inning of Friday’s 4-3, 10-inning walk-off win over the Tigers when he pulled up running out a fielder’s choice grounder to second. He grabbed his hamstring and left the field after visits from Will Venable and head athletic trainer James Kruk. Before the injury, he was tied for the AL home run lead with Yordan Alvarez at 20, led the league in runs scored with 43, ranked second in RBIs with 41, and posted a .938 OPS. The White Sox had improved from a 6-13 start to 25-14 overall, including a 7-1 win over Detroit on Saturday, and were 10-3 in the AL Central. They had also gone 15-3 in their last 18 home games and 11-6 in one-run games after posting a combined 47-95 in those situations from 2023 to 2025.
