Chicago Blackhawks announced a team Hall of Fame for their centennial celebration, honoring the greatest players in franchise history. Voting is open to fans, while a select group of media members votes as well, and a separate group of Blackhawks alumni provides another vote. The first inductees included Steve Larmer and Duncan Keith, with Troy Murray posthumously inducted in the Builder category. A media ballot for the second class is shared again, focusing on the Heritage Era ballot candidate Doug Wilson. Wilson is a Hockey Hall of Fame inductee, won the Norris Trophy in 1981-82, and earned multiple NHL All-Star selections. His Blackhawks career totals include 938 games, 225 goals, 554 assists, and 80 power-play goals.
"Last year, as part of their centennial celebration, the Chicago Blackhawks announced a team hall of fame to honor the greatest players in the history of the organ-I-zation. The Blackhawks Hall of Fame voting is open to fans, but a select group of media members are given the privilege of voting in that capacity. A third component to the selection process is a vote by a group of Blackhawks alumni."
"The first class of Blackhawks Hall of Fame inductees as voted on by the fans and media were Steve Larmer (Heritage Era Ballot) and Duncan Keith (Modern Era Ballot). The Blackhawks also posthumously inducted former player and broadcaster Troy Murray as a member of the Builder category. All three are incredibly deserving."
"Heritage Era Ballot - Doug Wilson Hockey Hall of Fame inductee Norris Trophy (1981-82) NHL All-Star Game: six times NHL All-Star Team, First Team - once NHL All-Star Team, Second Team - twice Blackhawks career (14 years): 938 games played, 225 goals, 554 assists, 80 power play goals"
"There are so many great candidates on the Heritage Era ballot to consider, it's hard to make a choice. It's especially hard to compare the stars from the early days of the Blackhawks to players I've seen play in person. But the overall numbers help build a case for individuals who stand out for both excellence and longevity with the franchise."
