The Columbus Crew claimed the top spot in the Eastern Conference with a commanding 4-2 win against Charlotte FC, marking their fifth victory in six matches. Wilfried Nancy praised the team's response after conceding a goal before halftime. Meanwhile, Chicago Fire's 16-year-old defender Christopher Cupps made history as the youngest starter for the club, contributing to a draw against Orlando City SC despite a red card faced by his teammate. Both teams demonstrated resilience in this weekend's MLS matchups, highlighting significant achievements and future challenges ahead.
"I'm happy that we did well and I'm happy with the start we had since the beginning of the season," Crew head coach Wilfried Nancy said after the game.
"The fact that we are able to play as a team, we are able to have an edge on them," Nancy added. "We'll see, we're gonna play them in three weeks."
"How many questions so far? Four questions from you guys, and we haven't talked about Chris Cupps starting at centre-back at 16 years old? I mean, come on," coach Gregg Berhalter joked to reporters.
Charlotte had not conceded four goals in an MLS game since June 2023, when they lost by the same scoreline to the Crew.
