"Another new top-100 prospects list for the pre-2026 cycle, and this one looks pretty different from the ones we've seen before. By and large, those featured Jaxon Wiggins and Moises Ballesteros as the two main Cubs prospects on the list, with occasional appearances by Kevin Alcantara, Jefferson Rojas, and Ethan Conrad. In this installment, over at FanGraphs, Eric Longenhagen has four Cubs making the cut, and certainly not in an order we've come to expect: 55. Jefferson Rojas, SS60. Kevin Alcantara, OF72. Jaxon Wiggins, RHP84. Moises Ballesteros, C"
"But Rojas' production cratered over 39 games following a promotion to Double-A, badly enough to trigger a re-evaluation. Every number got worse, most starkly his wRC+ (145 to 58) and home run total (11 to zero). We tried to play doctor and didn't come away especially satisfied. Sure, it's a lofted swing without a lot of barrel manipulation; there was always going to be some fastball miss here. Yes, he's an undersized guy with a big swing that could compromise his barrel accuracy."
Four Chicago Cubs prospects landed on a pre-2026 top-100 list: Jefferson Rojas (#55), Kevin Alcantara (#60), Jaxon Wiggins (#72), and Moises Ballesteros (#84). All four sit in the middle of the larger 50 FV prospect group in baseball, and none rank inside the top-50. Jefferson Rojas experienced a steep production decline over 39 games after a Double-A promotion, with wRC+ dropping from 145 to 58 and home runs from 11 to zero. Scouts cite a lofted swing, limited barrel manipulation, undersized frame, head movement, and susceptibility to spin. Rojas is 20 and may need time to adjust to higher-level pitching.
