Cubs Have 'No Regrets' on Cade Horton's workload - Bleacher Nation
"When I look back, I don't have any thoughts or regrets about how we handled him because we were so conservative. Obviously, he broke down. I just think that is the nature of pitching in 2026. It's a hard part. You have to build up a lot of depth. We just have to have a next-guy-up mentality."
"When I look back on our progression with him, we didn't pitch him the year we drafted him in '22. In '23, we could not have been more conservative with how we threw him. Obviously, he spent a lot of time on the IL in '24."
Cade Horton of the Cubs will have surgery for a UCL injury in his right elbow, missing the rest of the season. The Cubs are unsure if the injury was preventable, despite their conservative management of Horton since drafting him. He has previously undergone Tommy John surgery, and the upcoming procedure will determine if he needs a second. Recovery time varies based on the type of surgery, with an internal brace requiring about 12 months and a full Tommy John procedure about 15 months.
