Cincinnati Reds Signing Eugenio Suarez - Bleacher Nation
"When the Boston Red Sox today traded reliever Jordan Hicks and most of his contract to the Chicago White Sox, I wondered if it was a precursor to third baseman Eugenio Suarez finally signing. He's not the defensive upgrade the Red Sox have reportedly been looking for, but it might be a beggars and choosers situation for them at this point, if they don't want to pay an outrageous trade price to some other team."
"More to the point, this was an area where the Reds could really stand to upgrade (a corner-infield bat or DH type), and this is going to be a significant boost to their offense on a cheap deal. Meanwhile, the Red Sox will have to look elsewhere in the infield - or, that is to say, they will continue to look elsewhere:"
The Boston Red Sox traded reliever Jordan Hicks and most of his contract to the Chicago White Sox. Eugenio Suárez agreed to a one-year, $15 million contract with the Cincinnati Reds that includes a mutual option for 2027. The Reds expect Suárez to get most of his at-bats as designated hitter. The addition provides a significant, inexpensive offensive boost for Cincinnati. The Red Sox were not a meaningful participant in Suárez's market and will continue pursuing infield upgrades. Trade and roster rumors about players such as Matt Shaw persist, and the Cubs are reportedly not moving Nico Hoerner.
