"The latest signing is big righty Gabe Klobosits, who has pitched the last couple years in independent ball (mostly dominating): Sources: RHP Gabe Klobosits and the #Cubs have agreed to a minor league deal.Klobosits pitched in 11 games in 2021 for the #Nationals. He's spent the past two seasons in Indy ball. This offseason his fastball is up to 98. pic.twitter.com/xTrF2cPdn5- Ari Alexander (@AriA1exander) January 26, 2026"
"That's a cut-ride fastball, and if he hasn't completely lost that movement, it's a profile the Cubs really appreciate. Though he's 30 and has past big league experience, I expect there will be some more developmental work going on with Klobosits than you might see with other relievers in the reclamation group. He's been out of affiliated ball for a few years, and the Cubs may have some ideas on what he might need to lock in mechanically/grip/pitch selection/etc."
The Cubs signed 6'8" right-hander Gabe Klobosits to a minor-league deal after his strong independent-ball performance. Klobosits last pitched in MLB in 2021 and posted a 2.14 ERA over 80 innings in Indy ball across the last two seasons. Reports say his fastball reached 98 mph this offseason and features cut-ride movement the Cubs value. The organization plans developmental work on mechanics, grip, and pitch selection because Klobosits has been out of affiliated baseball for several years. The Cubs intend to evaluate him at Triple-A Iowa and potentially in the major-league bullpen after refinement.
