Bears Assistant Al Harris Could Be Defensive Coordinator Fit For Steelers
"I'd keep a keen eye on Al Harris coming in as the Steelers defensive coordinator. Harris is currently the DB coach/defensive pass game coordinator with the Bears.- Mark Kaboly (@MarkKaboly) January 24, 2026 Could Al Harris land on Mike McCarthy's staff with the Pittsburgh Steelers? It would stink for the Bears to lose Al Harris as a position coach. However, it make sense for Harris to join Mike McCarthy with the Steelers - especially if he gets elevated into the defensive coordinator role in Pittsburgh."
"Al Harris played 194 games during his 14-year playing career, inclduing 102 during a seven-year stint with the Green Bay Packers. His best years came with Green Bay, too, as he earned Pro Bowl trips for his efforts in 2007 and 2008. After hanging 'em up after playing nine games with the St. Louis Rams in 2011, Harris began his coaching career as an intern with the Miami Dolphins (2012)"
The Green Bay Packers hired a new defensive coordinator; the hire was not Al Harris. Mark Kaboly suggested Al Harris as a possible Steelers defensive coordinator under new head coach Mike McCarthy. Harris is the Chicago Bears defensive backs coach and defensive pass game coordinator. Harris played 194 games over 14 seasons, including 102 with the Green Bay Packers, and made Pro Bowls in 2007 and 2008. Harris began coaching as a Miami Dolphins intern in 2012, later worked with the Kansas City Chiefs, FAU, and Dallas Cowboys, and joined the Bears in 2025. Harris coached alongside Ben Johnson while in Miami.
