Cal's NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament journey ended abruptly with a 59-46 loss to Mississippi State. Despite a strong season finishing at 25-9, the eighth-seeded Bears struggled offensively, shooting only 25% from the field and turning the ball over 24 times. This was their first tournament appearance since 2019, but the team's reliance on 3-point shooting faltered under pressure, leading to a disappointing exit. Michelle Onyiah led Cal with a double-double, but the team's overall performance plagued by missed shots and turnovers proved costly against a determined Mississippi State squad.
After living by the 3-point shot all season, Cal was 3-for-22 against Mississippi State due to a stifling extended defense as well as an ability to make shots when open.
At that point, Cal was 2-for-14 from 3-point land and 10-for-37 overall, compounding the missed shots with turnovers, as the Bears had 18 through three quarters.
