Chicago Stars FC has terminated head coach Lorne Donaldson following a disappointing start to the season, with the team losing five of its first six games. General manager Richard Feuz praised Donaldson's contributions to the team's culture and development. Masaki Hemmi will step in as interim coach while the search for a new head coach begins. Donaldson previously led the Stars to last season's playoffs but faced challenges with player absences, notably franchise player Mallory Swanson, impacting performance, leaving the team in last place currently.
"We are grateful to Lorne Donaldson for the culture, respect and sense of self-belief he helped build within our squad," Chicago Stars general manager Richard Feuz said.
"We still know it's early, but we can't keep saying that. We have to start getting results," Donaldson said last week ahead of the match against San Diego.
