Royals made significant roster move ahead of Monday's opener against White Sox

The Kansas City Royals reinstated infielder Michael Massey from the 10-day injured list after he missed 65 games with a left-ankle sprain, a right wrist injury, and back tightness. Massey hit .258 with four home runs and 11 RBIs in 25 Triple-A rehab games and was available for the series opener against the Chicago White Sox. The Royals optioned outfielder John Rave to Triple-A after a .199 batting average in 63 major-league games. Massey primarily plays second base and has also seen time in left field, adding left-handed power and lineup flexibility while Jonathan India and Adam Frazier have occupied second base. Managerial defensive alignments remain to be determined as the team heads into the stretch run.
