Lack of an immune receptor might prevent cancers associated with Epstein-Barr virus
Briefly

IL-27 is involved in immune responses. Genetic alterations in the IL-27 receptor gene can lead to susceptibility to severe Epstein-Barr virus infections.
Deficiency in IL-27 receptor may be protective against cancers associated with Epstein-Barr virus as IL-27 is necessary for the proliferation of virus-infected B cells.
