Former Chicago White Sox catcher Martin Maldonado has signed a minor league contract with the San Diego Padres, aiming to continue his career at age 38.
Maldonado, a 14-year veteran known for his defensive skills, previously played for multiple teams and won a World Series with the Astros in 2022.
With only two catchers on the Padres' 40-man roster, there's potential for Maldonado to secure a spot coming out of spring training.
Despite his struggles at the plate, Maldonado's experience, including a Gold Glove and playoff appearances, makes him a valuable asset for San Diego.
