"It's important to recognize each and every ethnic group which is part of this amazing borough, its past, its present and its future. Italian-Americans have made ongoing contributions that have had a lasting impact on Brooklyn, New York City and the United States," said Colton.
"It's a celebration of who we are," Jack Spatola, chair of the FIAO of Brooklyn, told reporters. The parade now reflects Italian, Asian, Arab, Irish and other backgrounds, as does Il Centro, whose website showcases Asian events like the Chinese New Year and Diwali.
