No matter the quality or depth of the 10 outfield players -- for as long as the majority of American fans can remember -- everyone knew the USMNT had a high quality goalkeeper to clean up the mess.
But still, goalkeeping is now a relative spot of weakness -- an unusual position for the U.S. after years of never worrying about it.
