Chelsea has secured a transfer agreement for midfielder Dario Essugo from Sporting CP, marking their second acquisition of Portuguese talent in quick succession. Following the signing of Geovany Quenda, who will spend next season on loan at Sporting, Essugo's deal, valued at £18.5 million, is expected to see him joining Chelsea's first team immediately after his loan at Las Palmas. Despite prior financial restrictions, Essugo's contract is set to last until June 2032, with a possible extension. He is anticipated to serve as a backup to key midfielder Moises Caicedo, helping to strengthen Chelsea's midfield depth.
To make room for Essugo, Enzo Maresca is set to loan Mathis Amougou - a talented midfield youngster who only arrived in February - out to Chelsea's sister club Strasbourg.
There are different plans for Essugo. The combative 20-year-old is currently on loan at Las Palmas but is expected to be thrust straight into Chelsea's first team.
