Sam Kerr, the Chelsea and Australia striker, has been acquitted of charges of racially aggravated harassment towards a police officer following a trial at Kingston Crown Court. The jury concluded she did not use the words directed at PC Stephen Lovell in a racially motivated context during an incident in January 2023. Kerr had faced allegations after a night out, asserting they feared for their safety regarding a taxi driver. Character witnesses, including her coach and team captain, affirmed her character. Now cleared of the charges, Kerr can concentrate on her football career after significant injury setbacks.
Kerr was found not guilty of racially aggravated harassment after a week-long trial, with evidence suggesting the words used were not racially motivated.
The incident occurred after Kerr and her partner were driven to the police station following a night out, during which they alleged they feared for their safety.
