Sisters Alyssa and Gisele Thompson have been announced as part of the U.S. women's national team for the SheBelieves Cup, marking only the third time siblings have been selected together. Notably absent is defender Naomi Girma, a prominent player who transferred to Chelsea for a record $1 million. Coach Emma Hayes aims to field a new lineup, with many players lacking experience, using this tournament to develop and assess talent against strong international teams while the squad remains in transition.
"This team is still growing," Hayes said. "With many players at the beginning of their club preseasons, we'll be patient with them. But at the same time, we're going to maximize the time we have together."
