Abramovich wants 'proper goodbye' at Chelsea
Briefly

Roman Abramovich, the ex-owner of Chelsea, expressed in a recent interview his desire to return for a proper farewell to the club, three years after sanctions forced his sale amid the Ukraine conflict. While Abramovich ruled out any professional football role, he mentioned a potential interest in helping youth initiatives. He reflected on his past involvement in peace talks during the war, acknowledging public skepticism about his motives. The UK government is pursuing Abramovich to ensure proceeds from Chelsea's sale aid Ukraine, highlighting ongoing tensions surrounding his past ownership.
"Perhaps one day there would be a situation where I could attend a match and say a proper goodbye, but nothing more than that," Abramovich said.
"I don't have any interest in any role in a football club, certainly not a professional role. There might be something where I could help with academies and youngsters, giving greater opportunities to people from difficult backgrounds," he stated.
"Whatever I do, people will always accuse me of some kind of agenda. In the end, I have done what I have done simply to try to help," Abramovich added.
The UK government has threatened to sue Abramovich to ensure the money from the club's sale goes to Ukraine.
