Why California would ban motorhome sales, registrations in 2025
Briefly

"RVs are low mileage, low fuel, and thus low emission vehicles due to the low usage," Joe Snyder with Freightliner Custom Chassis told CARB at the Oct. 24 meeting. "Not allowing sales of new RVs doesn't stop consumer demand."
"Two major diesel chassis builders, Spartan and Freightliner, have told Newmar RV that they can't meet that requirement," RV Travel reported. "In a letter to dealers, Newmar says that effective [Nov. 4], they will no longer be able to provide any diesel-fueled motorhomes on those platforms."
Lobbyists for the RV industry are actively pursuing an exemption for motorhomes. They argue the requirement is too costly and would impact the availability and overall costs of a motorhome. This highlights the ongoing struggle between environmental regulations and consumer demand.
"While we are continuing to work with manufacturers, dealers and CARB to find a solution, if nothing changes, motorhomes will not be able to be sold and registered in California beginning in 2025," said the RV industry representative.
