Federal safety investigators are looking into 22 incidents involving Waymo's driverless vehicles where they were 'the sole vehicle operated during a collision' or exhibited behaviors potentially violating traffic laws.
Waymo vehicles were involved in incidents like collisions with objects, parked vehicles, disobeying traffic control devices, driving on the wrong side of the road, and illegally entering construction sites.
Waymo acknowledges minor traffic collisions but claims its technology is better at preventing serious incidents than human drivers, based on analyzing millions of driverless miles in Phoenix, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
