In 1885, Karl Benz built what's now considered the first modern automobile, featuring a single-cylinder four-stroke engine outputting 0.75 hp. Two years later, his wife Bertha proved the car's readiness by driving it from Mannheim to Pforzheim, leading to its production as the first commercially available automobile.
