Tesla's robotaxi plans for Nevada move forward with testing permit | TechCrunch
"We are expecting to greatly increase the service area to well in excess of what competitors are doing, hopefully in a week or two. We are getting the regulatory permission to launch in the Bay Area, Nevada, Arizona, Florida, and a number of other places,"
"As we get the approvals and prove out safety, we will be launching the autonomous ride-hailing across most of the country. I think we will probably have autonomous ride-hailing in probably half the population of the U.S. by the end of the year. That's at least our goal, subject to regulatory approvals."
Tesla obtained a Nevada DMV Certificate of Compliance and red license plates to test autonomous vehicle technology on public streets in Nevada. The company plans to expand autonomous ride-hailing beyond Austin into markets including the Bay Area, Nevada, Arizona, and Florida, aiming to cover about half the U.S. population by year-end pending regulatory approvals. Tesla has already offered robotaxi rides in South Austin using driverless Model Y SUVs with a company employee in the front passenger seat. Nevada's testing process requires filing a testing registry permit form reviewed and processed by the DMV and is more straightforward than California's approach.
