"On [Tuesday], we responded to another example of the perils of riding an E-Bike and lack of safety awareness by riders. The juvenile operator of the e-bike has been charged with numerous infractions,"
"'If he didn't roll out of the way after he fell, he would have been completely run over by that motorist,' Milford Police Chief Robert Tusino told 7 News."
"'They're riding them on the sidewalks, which they're not supposed to, they're not obeying any of the traffic laws, which is what happened in this case, the young juvenile ignored the red light,' Tusino told 7 News."
The collision occurred at Main and Exchange Streets in Milford when a 15-year-old on a modified e-bike allegedly ran a red light and was struck by a car making a left turn. Video shows the rider being thrown to the ground and rolling to the side while the vehicle drives over and crushes the e-bike. The juvenile operator faces multiple traffic infractions. Police highlighted dangers of modified e-bikes, noting riders often disobey traffic laws and ride on sidewalks. Milford Police Chief Robert Tusino said the faster-modified bikes are a growing problem and that the car driver will not face charges.
