Austin Dillon's victory at Richmond has been overshadowed by a controversial finish that led NASCAR to punish him, stripping his playoff berth and docking points.
Dillon admitted to deliberately driving into the rear of Joey Logano, which resulted in a spin and crash, a maneuver deemed unacceptable by NASCAR officials.
Elton Sawyer stated, "As we look through all of that data, we came to the conclusion that a line had been crossed... Contact has been acceptable."
The actions taken against Dillon highlight NASCAR’s stance on not tolerating actions that undermine the integrity and values of stock car racing.
